Back to Convention SummaryThe meeting was called to order by Chairman Meg Smath at 1:55 p.m. Committee members present were Lil Haneman, Mary Lee Watson, Dot Donnelly, Tom Lyndon, and Marilyn Fink.
Cover Design:
The committee chose a design submitted by Michael Martin of Wildwood Crest, New Jersey. Committee member Steve Hogan voted for his choice by mail.
Dedication:
The 1998 rule book will be dedicated to all the USMS All-American swimmers from 1973 to the present. We will also print a memorial to Tom Lane, Masters Swimming's first 100+ swimmer, in the advertisement section.
Housekeeping Proposals:
Meg said she had submitted a very few housekeeping proposals to both Rules and Legislation Committees. The Rules changes have already been made in the computer files, after having been cleared by Tom Boak. The Legislation changes were to be discussed by the Legislation Committee.
Tasks for 1998 Rule Book:
- Meg Smath will make all changes to the rule book in the computer file.
- Steve Hogan will proofread parts I and III.
- Tom Lyndon will proofread part IV.
- Marilyn Fink will proofread parts II, V, VI, and Appendix D.
- Walt Reid will send the updated records to Meg on a disk.
- Dot Donnelly will compile Appendix E.
Mini-Rule Book:
Tom Lyndon made a proposal to print a "mini-rule book," which would contain only the parts of the rule book necessary for running a swim meet. The committee agreed this would be a benefit for swimmers and officials, and voted to ask the House of Delegates for the go-ahead to plan a mini-rule book. Planning would include designing a layout, determining how large a print run, and soliciting bids for printing.
Action Item:
To research printing a mini-rule book, to be published in addition to the standard rule book. The mini-rule book would be published after even years.
Meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Fink
