Convention Committee

Back to Convention Summary

Chairman Mike Heather called the meeting to order at 5:36 p.m. Committee members present were Bill Tingley, Meg Smath, Joanne Tingley, Art Mayer, Julie Paque, and Marie Kreipe.

  • The hospitality suite is in room 2112 and will be open from 11:00 a.m. to midnight, except during the House of Delegates meeting. Julie asked people to let her know if the suite runs out of supplies.
  • The USAS office needs help with copying and computers. The main duty will be policing the area and making sure no one eats or drinks in the vicinity of the computers. All USMS copying and computing this year will be done through the USAS office. You must be a spending entity to request that copies be made, and you must have Mel or Mike's signature for authorization. There will be an in-box where reports to be copied can be left for these signatures. The office will have twelve PCs and three Macs. There also will be connections to plug laptops into printers.
  • The ad-hoc computer committee will meet in room 4052 at 4:00 on Thursday.
  • Because our delegates are scattered in three different hotels, we will not be delivering committee reports to the delegates rooms this year. Instead we will assemble the reports in packets, put the delegates names on the packets, and leave the packets at the certification table for the delegates to pick up. Reports turned in after 9:30 p.m. each night will not be distributed until the next day. Reports turned in later than 9:30 p.m. on Friday will be available in the House of Delegates meeting on Saturday morning.
  • Joanne reported that we have 194 delegates to the convention this year, and as of 5:00 p.m., 104 had been certified.
  • Mike feels that next year we should require all delegates to attend the orientation meeting, not just the new delegates, so that information can be disseminated more efficiently.
  • Julie reported that the Friday night social hosted by the Pacific LMSC will be at the Steelhead Microbrewery. Buses will begin running at 9:30 p.m. and will continue throughout the night so that people will be able to leave when they please. Delegates should wear their badges so we can make sure unauthorized people do not attend (and deplete our beer allowance). PMS has prepaid for a certain amount of beer; once that amount has been exceeded, you can continue to buy beer with cash.
  • The Convention Committee will meet in Boardroom 1 at 9:00 p.m. to collate reports and put them in envelopes. Volunteers will be welcome!

Meeting adjourned at 5:56 p.m.
