Cheryl’s work toward effective communication in the Potomac Valley LMSC began when she became its secretary in 1995. She prepared and posted accurate board meeting minutes for all LMSC members to view. In 2001, while still serving as secretary, she became the editor of “The Swimmer’s Ear”, a newsletter that was distributed quarterly. Cheryl attended every meet - taking notes, snapping photos, and interviewing swimmers for each issue. In addition to meets, she also reported on board meetings and USMS activities.

Cheryl’s newsletters provided an opportunity for swimmers and coaches to share ideas, resources, and articles within the LMSC. This allowed critical technical and program development to occur and provided a local source for swimmers to benefit without having the availability of an experienced coach. Cheryl personally developed every edition and generated interesting and high quality content, even when no submissions had been made.
