Ellen Ferguson was born and raised in Eugene Ore., where she began her swimming career at age six. She was a NW regional champion for four years in the middle distance freestyle events, before moving to Mission Viejo, Calif., in 1979.
She swam for Olympic coach Mark Shubert before heading off to compete for UCLA. While in college, Ellen was an All-American collegiate athlete as well as the team captain. She became involved in a number of committees, serving as president of the athletes advisory committee on campus, as well as representing student athletes nationwide on the NCAA Long Range Planning committee.
Today, Ellen enjoys swimming and coaching Masters at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Ore. She and her husband have three small children under the age of four. In her spare time, she owns and runs a swimwear company called EQ Swimwear.
