The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is the official state art museum of Florida, located in Sarasota, Florida. It was established in 1927 as the legacy of Mable Burton Ringling and John Ringling for the people of Florida.
The Sarasota Art Museum on the Ringling College Museum Campus (SAM) officially opened to the public on December 14, 2019. Its location is the Old Sarasota High School building.
Built in 1927, the Late Gothic Revival, brick and terra cotta structure was once the city's main high school. It was designed by architect M. Leo Elliott in 1926 with the intention of setting itself apart from every other architectural feat in the city. Its exterior features brick pier buttresses and glazed terra cotta cluster columns while the interior includes Gothic Revival motifs: coats of arms, quatrefoils, and arched ceilings. The school was completed in 1927 and the first senior class graduated in 1928. The building was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The Sarasota Art Museum does not have a permanent collection. Rather, it is considered a kunsthalle (a contemporary art museum without a permanent collection).
Semi-permanent or site-specific installations include “The Thonet Chair”; “Vita in Motu”; “The Worker Project”; and several outdoor installations included in “On the Grounds.”
Siesta Key Beach and Siesta Key Village
Twice named the nation’s best beach, Siesta Key Beach is a must visit location while in Sarasota. With its white sand beaches and turquoise water, Siesta Key Beach is a perfect place to catch some rays or enjoy a breathtaking sunset.
Closeby is the Siesta Key Village, offering shopping, restaurants, bars, and live music almost any day. This area is the “Main Street” of Siesta Key and is a great place to grab dinner and drinks after a day at the beach (or on the pool deck).
The city of Sarasota is a scene of eateries, theaters, shopping boutiques and artist enclaves. Running through the heart of downtown is Main Street, and branching off this main drag are colorfully named streets such as Pineapple, Orange, Lemon and Palm. More shops and colorful bungalows turned into bakeries, galleries, salons and yoga studios surround central downtown and are divided into five districts: Burns Court, Towles Court, Rosemary District, Historic Palm Avenue and Gillespie Park. Even more is waiting to be discovered at Bayfront Park, Southside Village and other nearby locales.
Located next to Downtown Sarasota, Bayfront Park offers views of Sarasota Bay, public art installations, and restaurants. This is a great location to unwind and enjoy a meal at either of the two restaurants, or to find your evening sunset boat ride with one of the many charters that are available.

Mote Marine is an independent, nonprofit, marine research organization that allows visitors a chance to see and experience the native wildlife that Florida has to offer. Come explore over 100 stores and restaurants within St Armands Circle. Enhanced by its park within the center, this area offers a wide range of activities all within a small area, from cafes, to shops, to bars, all within a walking distance from one another. Located just over the iconic John Ringling Bridge, St Armands Circle is easily accessible from Downtown Sarasota.
