2023 Summer Nationals Inclement Weather
The safety of all attendees is our top priority. 2023 USMS Summer Nationals will be suspended if deemed necessary based on inclement weather in the area (lightning, heavy rain, high winds, etc.).
Typical weather patterns in Florida during August include a chance of late afternoon thunderstorms. If it storms, hopefully this will be after events have concluded each day.
As a precaution, review the Selby Aquatic Center lightning policy. There is limited indoor space at the Selby Aquatic Center. If lightning is in the area, attendees will need to seek shelter in their vehicles or the locker rooms.
To stay informed, registered swimmers should opt-in to receive text message updates. Swimmers will receive a text message prompt from Remind by July 14. This will be the fastest way to communicate with all participants so we will be able to send updates in real time. Please note that you do not need to install the Remind app; just opting in will enable you to receive text updates and you can stop texts at any time.
Every effort will be made to swim all races once it is safe to proceed. If there isn’t time to complete heats/events the same day or early the next morning, the last resort would be to cancel those heats/events to not cause further delays the following day(s). Moving incomplete heats/events to the end of the next day is not an option since USMS rules require events to be swum in order.
