Sylvia Bailey swam for Rinconada. She was married to a professor at Stanford and lived on campus. She came from Hawaii and was the grandmother of Jimmy Dean, a swimmer from Hawaii Swim Club who was run over by a speedboat while training in the ocean. He suffered severe damage to an arm but survived the accident. Sylvia was a wonderful and charming person, and a great contributor to Masters swimming.
